Kathmandu University, Department of Art and Design, organized a two-day workshop on 22-23 January 2024 titled “Monotype Printmaking: A Dialogue with Paper.”

The workshop aimed to explore the fundamentals of printmaking, with a focus on polyester plate lithography, the transfer of water-based color with oil-based ink, and interdisciplinary print methods. Participants engaged in hands-on activities, learning to create print editions using a variety of materials to better understand the concepts and applications of these techniques.

The workshop was primarily emphasized how different forms, colors, and lines can be manipulated to produce visually dynamic works. Additionally, participants were introduced to the dry point technique during the workshop.

The workshop provided participants with the freedom to experiment with textures, layers, and colors, which many found to be a deeply rewarding and meditative process. The facilitator’s clear guidance and encouragement fostered a supportive environment for learners of all skill levels.

Participants praised the interactive, hands-on nature of the workshop, which allowed them to fully immerse themselves in the art of monotype printmaking. The balance between technique-focused instruction and open artistic exploration was widely appreciated.

Over all the workshop was highly appreciated by the participants, who praised its interactive nature, the quality of instruction, and the opportunity to experiment with various printmaking methods.

Students from KU Art+Design, Lalitkala Campus and Sirjana College of Fine Arts took part in a two-day workshop.
