ARTalk by Shelley Warren

Kathmandu University, School of Arts, Center for Art and Design cordially invites you to the talk program by Shelley Warren at the premises of KU, School of Arts, Center for Art and Design, Hattiban, Lalitpur on 29th June, 2016, Wednesday at 12:00pm.

Visual Artist Shelley Warren will present an overview of her multimedia installations, sculptures and videos. She will provide a glimpse of her studio practices – use of materials, methods of making and ideologies that inspire her work.

Warren will show visual images of her work in relation to her conceptual considerations of the assimilation of Buddhism into Western Art, to assert the contrast and relationship between popular culture and Buddhist philosophy.

Environmentally conscious art and her re-use of recycled materials, in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint, will be a thread discussed throughout her talk.

The dichotomy of popular culture, and meditative ritual has always been an intrigue. By making art that speaks of one, in the context of the other, is at times disparate and contradictory, and at other times one and the same.
