It is an effort of 12 BFA final year students with Studio Art major, at Kathmandu University, School of Arts Center for Art and Design — Bhawana Ghimirey, Karma Chhetu Gurung, Rabin Maharjan, Suresh Maharjan, Roshan Sakha, Pramesh Sherchen, Rabindra Kumar Shrestha, Saran Tandukar, Shreejana Shakya, Nhooja Tuladhar, Shiva Prasad Upadhaya and Sudeep Balla.
The exhibition has become a platform for students to display their work that combines their experiences with their philosophical ideologies and concepts. Each artwork has represented their individual personality in their own creative genre where the students Continue the were not bound to one medium. They were encouraged to explore various media for the final project.
About the exhibition Sangeeta Thapa, Director of Siddhartha Art Gallery opined, “All sorts of art have been featured here and looking at the artworks I can see they are in tune with contemporary happenings and have presented skillful works.”
Ghimirey, Suresh, Gurung, Sakha, Rabin, Shrestha and Upadhaya have worked on paintings having varied themes related to people in society, unity, transformation and individuality. Meanwhile there are various other media that the students have explored like multimedia, installation, comic stripes among others.
In Suresh’s paintings various repetitive geometrical shapes have become the major motif while different textures on the background have made his paintings interesting. Inspired by the relation of numbers in human life he has created his artwork simultaneously depicting astrological objects like sun, mars and moon symbolically through colours like blue, red, grey, black and more.
Likewise, Shrestha has collaboratively worked with 20 different renowned artists of Nepal. In white background, in between curvy lines, the artists have filled it with motifs in their own style which has represented everyone’s connection with the universe.
Meanwhile, Balla has created 3D artworks with the theme — songs and legendary singers and its effect. In his work, artistes like Narayan Gopal to Beatles can be seen. Wearing red and blue coloured glasses, you can experience the 3D effect that is perfect. Also you will notice the intricate details like carving on the wooden window making stand on the artistes’ shoes.
Veteran director Tulsi Ghimire at the exhibition shared, “The exhibition features creative mind and if the government of Nepal recognises such talents they have the potential to give new hope and identity to Nepal.”
The exhibition continues till February 27.
