BFA Exhibition Project 2024

The incoming class of 2020 was welcomed amidst uncertainty and a glimmer of hope. They commenced
their study during the widespread disorder and shutdown stemming from the global pandemic. Due to
limited resources and restricted access to in-person meetings, we transitioned toward virtual learning and
teaching, utilizing online classes and recorded videos instructional tutorials. Establishing trust among
academia, students, and their parents played a pivotal role in ensuring effective teaching, particularly in
the context of challenges posed by the pandemic. By embracing the mantra “This too shall pass,” this
cohort of BFA students thrived through the pandemic. This batch of students has worked consistently and
diligently to successfully conclude its four-year academic journey.
Our academic program enabled students to commit themselves toward excelling in their artistic pursuits
fully by facilitating in-depth exploration of various subjects. The department established a culture of
innovation underpinned by sincere dedication, which aligns with the students’ core identity as aspiring
artists and designers.
In Graphic Communication, students have engaged in exploring their interests and conducting thorough
research, as nurtured by their inquisitive natures, and drawn from their personal memories to create
projects such as game design, campaign designs that focus on marginalized communities and social
equality, typography dedicated to indigenous languages and cultures, and package designs and illustrated
books that highlight Nepali culture and contribute to the emergence of valuable traditional crafts. As Gen
Z citizens and artists, they possess an understanding of the most effective mediums for communicating to
a diverse audience. Their deliberate selection of subjects serves as a reflection of their academic
development.
In Studio Art, students have explored a variety of techniques alongside traditional skills. They have honed
their abilities while gaining an extensive understanding of different subjects and concepts. A spirit of
curiosity, dedication, and thorough research has been integral to success in Studio Art. The works
presented here explore mythology, folklore, and ethnicity, and deeply observe social ecology. In their best
mediums of expression, these works further deal with mental well-being, spirituality, geometry, and
order. Their works investigate personal and generational memories as well as look at the lives of persons
with special abilities. Their choice of mediums and materials contributes to the thoughtful elaboration of
their projects’ intended meanings.
The mental health and well-being of our students has always been, and will always remain the foremost
priority. This cohort encountered the uncertainties created by the global pandemic. But the challenges
were turned into opportunities for studying, unfolding the stories of our local communities, arriving at a
deeper understanding of their places of origin, and prioritizing their well-being. The four-year academic
journey is evidence that our graduating students are now ready to be professionals. They are devoted to
contributing to Nepal’s art and design community, while also making their mark upon the economy of
Nepal. While youths are seeking options to fly and settle abroad, we, at the Department of Art and
Design, are dedicated to providing the best academic learning, and building opportunities for emerging
talents within Nepal.
We wish our best to the graduating students and their mentors for the BFA Exhibition project Confluence.
