Atelier for Artist

The opening celebration of Atelier for artist was held at Bungamati on 4th June, Saturday at 3:00pm. The atelier is located at Bungamati- Khokona road near Peace Garden School.

Artists’ training in Bungamati is an academic program provided by Kathmandu University School of Arts at an off-campus atelier in Bungamati. The First phase of this program shall be overseen by One to Watch. This pilot-project, developed by One to Watch in academic collaboration with Kathmandu University School of Arts, will provide a six month professional training to woodcarvers. Bungamati is known for its traditional arts and is a popular destination for art and academic workshops. In the earthquake of 25 April 2015, much of Bungamati was destroyed, in order to support the rebuilding, of Bungamati, as well as the rest of Nepal, it is vital to develop a pool of skilled artisans. This project aims to promote local art, build the capacity of local artists and at the same time contribute to developing the much needed skilled human resources for the rebuilding of post earthquake Nepal.

The academic program primarily focuses on guided and unguided studio hours and includes theoretical and applied classes on drawing, art-history and various other workshops. The intensive studio hours shall be guided bya a master trainer from Bungamati where lecturers and professors of Kathmandu University School of Arts and experts on related fields shall conduct other relevant classes.
